At the recent AusCERT 2004 Conference held on the Gold Coast, updated details of the ISSPCS Certification were presented to a gathering of around 150 delegates of the global I.T. security community. Nick Tate, President of the ISSPCS Academic Board was joined by John Hopkinson, President of ISSEA to provide an overview of the development and underlying principles of ISSPCS, and to take questions and feedback from an enthusiastic audience. Topics covered included: - The ISSPCS Scheme as a whole and reasons behind the development of a new Global Security Certification - Membership of the Academic Board - Certification Levels - Testing and Examination Procedures - Grandfathering Programme - Timetable for release and costs Also present were Jeff Carpenter from Carnegie Mellon University-Cert/CC, Mark McPherson representing AusCERT and Scott Sinclair from the University of Queensland - all current members of the Academic Board. There were a number of important questions raised from the floor, with an overall extremely positive response and keen interest from those present. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------- ISSPCS Academic Board established ----------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The International Systems Security Professional Certification Scheme, a new global standards-based certification for IT Professionals, announced today that it has established an Academic Board comprised of leaders from the global security community, industry and the academic sector. The Academic Board will seek to enhance the ISSPCS's alignment of the current information security landscape and the needs of IT security professionals, as well as provide insight into developing trends in content and technology strategy. Candidates may apply for an ISSPCS Practitioner certification, without having to sit or pay for the Practitioner exam, by utilising the ISSPCS Grandfathering Programme. The references are intended to allow candidates to gauge their suitability for sitting the Practitioner Level Examination and cover the six Functional Disciplines at the core of the ISSPCS Subject Matrix. In addition, a seventh regional reference may be available for your jurisdiction and will be made available soon after examination dates are scheduled in your region.
